To work as a independent real estate agent you don't need any diplomas or degrees, but to work as a agent for a company employers prefer that you at least have one degree or at least a high school diploma, especially in today's market because it’s getting more competitive and complex. All real estate brokers and sales agents must be licensed and go thru a 1-3 course depending on the state. Licensing requirements vary by state, but most have similar basic requirements. All agents must be at least 18 years old, pass a exam, and complete some real estate courses. In some states they require you to pass a background check to become a real estate broker or sales agent. When you become a real estate sales agent your states license must be renewed every 2-4 years depending on the state you get your license in, some states sales agents must re complete real estate courses in order to renew their license(WOIS). At North Seattle College they have a real estate program that ranges from classes that teach basic requirements up to advanced requirements. The basic real estate program helps you get a better understanding of the real estate environment and helps you obtain the right skills that you need to work as a real estate agent. The advanced real estate class teaches you shows you how to handle properties and and invest your money. Some of the pros of working as a independent real estate agent are that you are your own boss, and you get to control your own hours and you are not working at a desk all day you can work from your own home. Another pro about working as a independent real estate agent would be you get 100% of your commission.
Some cons about working as a independent real estate agent would be that the stock market is always changing and business becomes slow so you must be able to adapt to the changing market, and you would be taking a risk because its not 100% for sure that you will be getting any income. Another con would be even though you make your own hours you have to be able to work around your clients time schedule.
